Saint Anne, The Virgin Mary & The Infant Jesus

2013 Restoration, restored by Ohio Members, Mr. and Mrs. William and Lorraine Dodero

Saint Anne, The Virgin Mary & The Infant Jesus
This beautiful wooden statue entered in the collections of the Vatican Museums in 1985. It represents Saint Anne, the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus according to a particular iconography that is called “Sant’Anna Metterza”, or “Mass for the third Anne”. Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus, is the larger subject and is sitting with the Virgin Mary in her lap, who in turn holds the Child Jesus. Both the forearms and the arms of the Virgin Mary and of the Child Jesus have been lost.

The restoration process included pesticide treatment, cleaning and consolidation of the pictorial surface, photographic documentation and application of varnishes.
